Safe winter hiking
Your safety and nature are close to our hearts. For this reason, please follow the rules for proper behavior in the mountains and in nature. So nothing stands in the way of your hike and it will remain in good memory.
Basic equipment for winter hiking
A must for winter hiking is warm and functional clothing adapted to the weather and temperature conditions. A hat, gloves and warm and sturdy footwear with good tread are essential for winter hiking.
What should also have room in the backpack?
- Cell phone with charged battery to make an emergency call
- Sunscreen/sunglasses - the winter sun is very strong despite the cold and the reflection of sunlight in the snow crystals can cause irreparable eye damage
- Telescopic poles/hiking sticks - Winter hiking trails can be slippery or have icy spots. Hiking poles or telescopic poles offer you additional stability and safety.
- Hiking map or hiking guide
Please also note the following tips and rules
Stay on the marked and cleared trails. Shortcuts or routes through pathless terrain are not a good idea and increase the risk of losing orientation, falling or triggering an avalanche. On cleared and marked winter hiking trails you are usually safe from the alpine dangers mentioned above.
