Elbigenalp
The "Duarf", as the community of Elbigenalp is affectionately called by the people of the Lechtal, lies at 1,040 m above sea level and, with its settlements of Unter- and Obergiblen as well as Kögeln and the hamlet of Grünau, forms the main village of the Lechtal.
For many years, the community has been known beyond Tyrol's borders as a cultural stronghold of the Lech Valley, if not of the entire Außerfern region. Thus, the birthplace of the Geierwally, annually attracts thousands of visitors, on the open-air stage in the Bernhardstalschlucht in their spell.
As a former vacation resort of Queen Mother Mary of Bavaria, the municipality of Elbigenalp is also a hotspot for artists, carvers and sculptors. No less than two carving schools, including a technical school for arts and crafts and several carving businesses, adhere to this traditional craft.
If you want to see history, culture and the Lechtal way of life bundled together, we definitely recommend the bush of the new museum "Wunderkammer".
But those who have exhausted themselves culturally and in terms of handicrafts have by no means exhausted all the leisure activities on offer in Elbigenalp. On hot days, the outdoor swimming pool Elbigenalp/Bach serves to cool you down, and for sporting ambition, the tennis facility is right next door. For your daily workout, the local fitness studio is exactly the right address to keep fit. But for those who prefer to balance out in nature, there are of course numerous rustic and cozy huts and alpine pastures around Elbigenalp to hike.
But also the winter is simply magical in Elbigenalp. In addition to a sunny ski lift with ski school, you also have the opportunity to use the perfectly groomed cross-country ski trails in Elbigenalp. A romantic horse-drawn sleigh ride makes your winter vacation in Elbigenalp finally a winter wonder vacation.
With two grocery stores, two banks and a doctor, you are also well provided for in the main village of the Lech Valley. In Elbigenalp there is much to see and discover.
